Second Off Season

May 25 - September 25

  • elaboration GIS Mapping (2nd season)
  • verification and analysis of acquired data
  • environmental data monitoring (2nd phase)
  • consolidation of the 2nd geodatabase release

During the second off-season in Italy, activities focused on processing, analysing and organising the data collected in the field, ensuring continuity with the conservation work undertaken at Hegra. A central role was played by the update of the geodatabase, which underwent an in-depth revision that included the addition of new data relating to the tested areas, the integration of the tomb cards, the definition of compilation conventions, and the production of updated maps for all intervention zones.

Diagnostic analysis represented a second key area of work. The results of the tests and samples carried out during the previous seasons were processed, with contributions from the scientific consultants led by Prof. M. Matteini and the laboratories of Art&Co and Mapei. Laboratory analyses were expanded, new tests on mortars and fillings were planned, and the diagnostic report for the second field season was drafted.

In parallel, work continued on the 3D survey, leading to the full processing and production of the final orthophotos, supported by ongoing technical exchanges among the teams involved.

The communication plan accompanied the entire off-season with continuous activities dedicated to image selection, content drafting and the publication of the main results achieved during the second operational season. Website content was updated, editorial plans for the summer months were defined, and preparation began for the material intended for the CyArk virtual tour within the Tapestry project. Overall, the second off-season made it possible to consolidate the results achieved in the field, systematically organise the documentation produced, and define the operational guidelines for the subsequent working season at Hegra.
